Reference Checks
Reference checks, similar to background checks though less invasive, entail reaching out to a job-applicant's former employers, educational institutions, and personal acquaintances to verify claims made in interviews and accomplishments cited on resumes - and, you hope, to gain insight into a person's skills, temperament, and character. Today various opinions exist regarding the necessity and effectiveness of reference checks (in favor of more extensive background checks when warranted), but your startup should, at very least, verify the dates of past employment stints.Tech company employers typically verify references of potential employees to determine whether a potential employee is engaged in misconduct or dishonest behavior and to determine if the candidate has demonstrated the skills desired for the job. If a tech company does not verify references, it may be a factor in a negligent hiring case.
Tech companies should be careful to treat all applicants equally regardless of race, gender, natural original, sexual orientation or religion. Questions that are personal, such as the applicant’s relationship situation, should not be asked in interviews.
