What is an Employee?

Generally speaking, an employee is someone (can be a manager or a worker) who performs work or duties at the behest and direction of your startup. The employer (your startup) is the one who dictates how jobs are performed, and historically has supplied the materials and workspace (this is no longer universally true) which facilitates the work's completion.

A person who is in a servant/master type of relationship with a technology company.  The employee performs services for the tech company and the tech company retains the right to control the manner or means by which the services are performed.  A traditional employee performs services on the tech company’s premises and uses the tech company’s tools of trade.  An increasing number of employees, however, no longer provide services on the tech company’s premises.
